With energy demand going up and carbon dioxide on the rise again, there’s never been a better time for you to get involved.
At SIU, a long-time leader in energy research, we’re adding to our lineup of clean energy programs once again. You will now be able to develop expertise in areas related to clean energy technology, energy systems efficiency and emissions reduction from energy use.
SIU can help you make a difference
Starting fall semester of 2018, we are adding new academic programs with a focus on energy. They include:
- Mechanical Engineering with Specialization in Energy Engineering
- Minor in Energy Engineering for Mechanical Engineering Students
- Minor in Energy Engineering for Non-Mechanical Engineering Students
OK, I’m in! But how do I pay for it?
SIU celebrates a legacy of making higher education affordable and attainable. The university offers students in energy academic programs three kinds of scholarship opportunities through the Energy Boost fund at the Advanced Coal and Energy Research Center. Those include:
Undergraduate Scholarships for Illinois Coal Country
Come from a coal-mining family or community? This scholarship, which provides up to $5,000 a year, targets students coming from high schools in southern Illinois where the downturn in that industry has had a direct effect.
Energy Minor/Specialization Scholarship
This scholarship provides up to $5,000 a year for qualified students minoring or specializing in Energy Engineering.
Graduate Scholarships
SIU’s energy programs are constantly evolving to ensure our students have the knowledge and training to hit the ground running after graduation. Our Professional Science Master’s in Advanced Energy and Fuels Management program is a perfect example, and we have one-time, $5,000 scholarships available for students entering the program.
