Artist and professor Jiyong Lee spends his days in the School of Art and Design assisting students with glass sculptures. While teaching at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, he has been asked to be a visiting artist at several institutions across the world where he taught workshops, including the University of South Australia, Domaine de Boisbuchet in France, Fire Station Artists’ Studios in Ireland, and more.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s 21 spring 2022 dental hygiene graduates not only have the rare accomplishment of earning a diploma from the only baccalaureate dental hygiene program in the state, approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, but they are also one of just two groups in the state to complete the online community dental health coordinator (CDHC) certification.

Leslee Lunden Lofton is making the most of an opportunity she saw in her own closet. Inspired by her own old clothes, garments at local thrift stores and an effort toward sustainability, Lofton, a senior in Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s fashion design program, is repurposing apparel as she prepares to unveil her line at the Student Showcase and Runway Fashion Show, Thursday, April 21, in Student Center Ballroom D.

Saluki Pride: Arash Komaee works to unlock next generation of surgical robotic tools

Ensconced in a laboratory packed with high-tech equipment, SIU Carbondale’s Arash Komaee is working on technology that might result in a new generation of surgical instruments. His efforts may someday lead, for example, to physicians using magnetize tools that can safely be operated inside a patient’s body using sufficiently strong magnets outside the body.
