If you’re like me, you are counting down the days until spring break (one more week)! Over spring break, there are plenty of things to do to relax and reset. Keep reading to learn more about how you can have a successful spring break!
1. Support SIU Athletics
A great way to enjoy your time off from class is to cheer on Saluki Softball by watching them play against Wisconsin at 1:30pm and Northern Illinois at 4:00pm on Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy nice weather as well. There is also an SIU women’s basketball game against ISU on Saturday, March 8 at 2:00pm. Go Dawgs!

2. Take a vacation/mini vacation
Go somewhere out of town to de-stress for a bit. This could be a week-long trip or a few days. I will be taking a vacation twelve hours away to visit family and enjoy the beach. While you have some time off, explore somewhere peaceful that you have been wanting to go to. You won’t regret it!
3. Get ahead of assignments/Catch up on anything you have missed
While most students do not want to work on assignments over spring break, it is a great time to get everything done, so that you do not have to stress when you have an assignment or project due 2 days after you come back. You could find some time each day to work on homework instead of taking up an entire day or you could find a day to do it all and relax for the rest of the break! It will definitely be worth it in the long run.

4. Start a new hobby or skill
Since you will have free time, try something you’ve always wanted to do! This could be learning an instrument, how to crochet, learning how to play a certain sport, etc. The options are endless and this is the perfect time to do it! I plan to learn how to make more foods over break, so that I can become a better cook.
5. Volunteer Staycation
SIU’s Touch of Nature is offering a Spring Break Staycation from March 8-16 that combines outdoor experiences with community service. This consists of staying on-site, engaging in 20 hours of volunteer work, and enjoying additional activities they will have to offer. Examples include hiking, rock climbing, ziplining, evening campfires, etc. Registration is open to all SIU students and is $350 (includes lodging, meals, and activities). Click the link to register: Staycation Registration.

If you do any of these five things, you are guaranteed to have a successful spring break! Enjoy your time off and come back strong as there will only be 40 more days of class left until summer break!
