Looking for a way to get your volunteer hours in? SIU has several upcoming opportunities for you to get involved, build experience, and support campus events. Whether you’re looking for something short-term or more hands-on, there are options to fit your schedule.
Science Fair Judging
The Illinois Junior Academy of Science (IJAS) State Science Fair is coming to Southern Illinois University this year, and they need student volunteers!
You can sign up to be a judge and help review middle and high school science projects. Over 200 judges are needed, and it’s only a 3–4 hour commitment on Friday, April 24 or Saturday, April 25. You’ll get to choose the subjects with which you feel most comfortable, and there’s a quick training before you start.
To sign up, fill out the application form and put “SIU” as your affiliation. Make sure to apply by Monday, April 13!
Science Fair Volunteers
Volunteers are needed Friday and Saturday to help with the State Science Fair. You might welcome students and families, answer questions, or help set up. Be sure to wear a maroon SIU/Saluki shirt when you volunteer. Food will be provided for volunteers.

Host an Activity with your RSO
Friday, April 24, from 5 pm-9 pm is a pizza party at the SIU Student Center. Registered student organizations and other groups can set up fun, hands-on activities to show what they have to offer. There will also be free pizza and drinks for volunteers.
You must request space for an activity by filling out the form below by April 13. Your space must be staffed the entire time.
Commencement Opportunities
Many volunteers are needed to make our Commencement ceremonies happen. This year’s spring commencement is on May 9, at 9 AM and 1 PM. Volunteers are asked to attend a brief training session on Thursday, May 7 at 2 p.m. in the Tedrick Auditorium building.
