Go to Spots for Late Night Snacks

If you are anything like me, there are times when you may find yourself hungry or wanting a late-night snack when almost everything is closed. Although both Lentz and Trueblood dining halls close at 8 PM, there are a few local spots that stay open during the late hours of the night. Keep reading to learn how to satisfy your hunger from late night study sessions!

1. Don Taco

Don Taco is a Mexican restaurant that offers tacos, burritos, and other classic dishes. The prices are affordable and they are open every day! On Sunday and Monday, they are open until 2 AM. Every other day of the week, they are open until 3 AM. From campus, it is only 3 to 4 minutes away if you drive or a 15-20 minute walk. I definitely recommend ordering the tacos or nacho fajitas.

2. Papa Johns Pizza

Papa Johns is one of my favorite pizza places! They are a take-out and delivery chain that offers pizza, wings, sides, AND desserts. They truly do have it all and the food is top quality! Although I am lactose intolerant, I can’t resist when it comes to eating at Papa Johns. They are open every day until 1 AM. Don’t miss out as it is only a five minute drive from the west side of campus.

3. Sam’s Cafe

Sam’s Cafe is a local favorite known for its comfort food. I recommend trying their cheese fries, which are topped with melted cheese and perfect as a late night snack! If you’re still hungry, the Philly cheese steak sandwich and mozzarella sticks are great options. Try it out as it is only a three minute drive or five minute walk from our campus! The best part is that they are open from 7:30 PM-12 AM and 12:30-3 AM every day, including weekends.

4. Sonic Drive-In

You probably know what Sonic is but if not, it is a fast-food burger and fries joint. The service is fast and excellent! My favorite thing about Sonic is that I can go in my pajamas and sit in my car until my food is brought out to me. My go-to snack from Sonic is mozzarella sticks and a blue raspberry + cherry slushie. What makes it even better is that you can drive in anytime from 7 AM until midnight, no matter what day it is. It is also a plus that Sonic is only a six-minute drive from campus!

5. Raawi’s restaurant

Raawi’s restaurant is located in Raawi’s General Store And Halal Meat Market. Something different about Raawi’s is that is a bit smaller than these other places but still has great food. It is open Sunday-Wednesday until 2 AM and Thursday-Saturday until 3 AM, so don’t pass up the chance to go! There are many foods to choose from but I recommend the spicy chicken sandwich, gyro platter, and their hotdogs. The prices are also very affordable. You can find Raawi’s on Main Street, which is only a 7-8 minute drive from campus.

6. Wendy’s

I have loved Wendy’s since I was little! Back home, the closest Wendy’s is an hour away, so when Carbondale Wendy’s reopened on November 12th, I was very excited. Wendy’s is a fast food restaurant that is open until 1 AM through the week and 2 AM on the weekends. From campus, it is a six minute drive, which you can’t pass up. They offer burgers, nuggets, wraps, salads, and more! My favorite item is the chocolate frosty. Orange Dreamsicle Frosty’s are usually offered in the spring which I also love! If you have never eaten at Wendy’s, you have to experience it!

If you ever find yourself hungry past 8 PM again, check out these places in Carbondale! If you are unable to walk or drive, they are also all available for delivery on DoorDash, except for Don Taco (which you can call for deliveries). These restaurants will be sure to curb your appetite after a long night at Morris Library.
