6 Tips for A Successful Finals Week

Feeling stressed about finals coming up? You’ve got this! Here’s a few tips to help you feel less stressed and set yourself up for success.

1. Set Aside Time for Self-Care

Dedicate at least 1 hour a week to focus on yourself. Maybe that’s going to the REC, taking a walk around Campus Lake, finding a nice spot in Morris Library to journal, or anything that helps you clear your mind. A little shift mindset could make a big difference.

2. Prioritize Your To-Do List

Make a list of which class work is most important. It will depend on what’s due first, how well you’re doing in each class, how much the assignment affects your grade. You’ll save time by not wondering what to work on first.

3. Study in groups

You’ll remember the information better and gain new ways of thinking by studying with others. It also helps to know how your classmates are doing —chances are, if you’re struggling, you’re not alone and you can help each other!

4. Do The Homework

Homework is usually a bigger percentage of your grade than you might think. Plus, doing the homework helps with learning the material better than other types of studying.  If you missed a homework assignment, check to see if you can still turn it in —any points are better than none!

5. Seek Out Tutoring

If you need some extra help in your classes, don’t hesitate to go to the Tutoring Center (Morris Library 7th floor). It’s free and they have tutors that help with almost any class you may need. You could also attend a study jam or other events within your academic college

6. Take Care of Your Mental Health

Finals can be tough; it’s okay to ask for help if you need it. CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services) is here with counselors across campus to help you navigate college when it feels overwhelming.

Good luck, Salukis! Continue working hard and stay focused. We want you to be successful and to see you back next semester — unless you’re graduating and on to your next adventure.
