As I am entering my senior year at SIU, there are many items that I look back on, and I am so thankful to have. School supplies are essential for college, but it is important to know which items you actually need. Keep reading for a list of my must-have school supplies!
1. A Reliable Laptop
In college, a laptop is very important. You will likely use it for many of your assignments. Many professors allow you to use a laptop to take notes, or it may be essential for late night essay-writing sessions at Morris Library.
2. A Planner
As someone who uses a planner daily, it is nice to be able to have your due dates and assignments organized. Having a planner also helps you stay on track with school/extracurricular activities and not forget to do any assignments. Check out the University Bookstore in the Student Center and find the perfect planner for you!
3. A Durable Backpack
While a tote bag that fits around one arm may be much more comfortable than wearing a backpack, it is important to bring something to class that will fit all of your items. I recommend getting a sturdy backpack that will carry your textbooks, laptop, pens/pencils, and snacks for long class periods.
4. Mini Umbrella
I highly recommend keeping a mini umbrella in your backpack. You never know when it may start pouring outside on a sunny day. Don’t risk showing up to class soaked!
5. Wireless Earbuds/Headphones
Whether you have a long walk to class or you are trying to study and need to block out the noise around you, earbuds are always important to have on you. Some professors may also require you to have earbuds/headphones. I love to put on instrumental music in my earbuds while I am studying; it helps me focus much more than if I was distracted by the sound in Faner Hall or the Student Center.
6. Reusable Water Bottle
Classroom temperatures can vary quite a bit on campus, so it’s always good to be prepared. One way to stay comfortable throughout the day is by carrying a reusable water bottle, especially since SIU has over 30 water refill stations. It’s also much cheaper than purchasing bottled water every day.
