Everywhere has their own culture and history, and SIU is no different in that regard. A big part of the culture and history here is in our Morris Library. I personally think it has become my second favorite place on campus. Sorry, nothing beats my bed. So, as one lover of our super cool, awesome sauce library, here are some reasons why it’s amazing.

1. The Outside
I fell with the library the second I saw it. The outside seating area, the windows, and the sweet sounds of the fountain drew me in. I wanted to sketch the outside, go in, and explore everything it had to offer. The architecture is beautiful and sitting outside for hours was never more appealing than when I saw the Morris Library.
2. Ground Floor
The Ground Floor of Morris Library has plenty to offer. You can look at books
recommended by our staff, lounge about, take a trip to the yummy Delyte’s coffee shop located on the first floor, print or copy any papers you need, and you can even rub Abraham Lincoln’s (statue’s) nose for good luck. There’s comfortable seating, delicious food, coffee, books, and a regulated temperature, what could be better than that?! I cannot recommend the mocha frappe and Italian sub enough! You can chill out and study, or just play games on your phone or laptop for hours. I have on so many occasions that I’m sure the Delyte’s workers are sick of me.
3. The Other Levels

An interesting about Morris Library is that different floors have different
noise levels. There are more social floors where you’re allowed to talk to your heart’s content, and floors for those who prefer a nearly silent environment. There are also classes that take place on the two top levels. Just look at the view from those windows! I’d be like an anime protagonist and sit by the window every chance I’d get. If you’re ever looking for a really cool photo opportunity, the basement has these awesome bookshelf doors straight out of Scooby-Doo.
SIU’s Morris Library has something for everyone. It’s a chill environment with a variety of cool things to do. It’s a beautiful place and it’s one of the many places on campus that makes me feel at home and proud to be a Saluki.
