Family Weekend Recap

This past weekend was SIU’s annual Family Weekend. Each fall, Family Weekend brings Salukis and their loved ones together for a few days of fun, connection, and campus pride. It’s the perfect opportunity for families to explore SIU, make memories, and see what life as a Saluki is all about. This year, I was so excited to see my family, and we packed our weekend full of fun activities!

Friday:

My parents came to Carbondale on Friday evening. To start our weekend, we decided to go out to eat at Buckwater Brew Works and Whiskey House in Carbondale. Although I did not get a picture of our food, it was a great dinner and a great time spent with family. My boyfriend and I played giant connect four and sang karaoke, so that was a blast!

Saturday:

We started off the morning bright and early with a delicious breakfast at IHOP. Next, my family and I went home and got ready for Greek Sing. This year was the 90th annual Greek Sing, so my sorority and I were very excited! We had a wonderful time and everyone did amazing. The craft sale was also going on in the Student Center, so we decided to stop by. There were many vendors there, and I loved seeing everything. After a long day on campus, we went to Fujiyama Japanese Cuisine and had a great lunch/dinner. Last, we went to the SIU football game where we won 55-27 against Indiana State! The tailgate before the game was very entertaining as it was filled with tents, food, music, and everyone showing off their Saluki pride. Once the game started, the energy in the stadium was contagious and cheering with my friends and family made it even better. It was the perfect way to end a Saturday with the people I love.

Sunday:

Unfortunately, my parents had to leave on Sunday. Before they went home, we decided to get coffee at Common Grounds in Carbondale. I got a pumpkin white chocolate latte as those are my two favorite flavors.

Family Weekend was such a fun and memorable experience. I loved getting to show my family around SIU’s campus and make new memories together. I hope you all had a great Family Weekend, Salukis!
